After almost four years of riding the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ bench, Uyloan finally found his way to the rotation of head coach Yeng Guiao.
Uyloan may not have the numbers that a Paul Lee or a Jeff Chan produces each game, but he definitely make sure that he can contribute in his own little way.
The 30-year old guard is norming 6.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 23.5 minutes during his first two games this conference.
“It’s not me, it’s the team. I have to make sure we play together as a team. The key for me to play more minutes is not in the stats I’ll put up but in how I’ll make the other teammates more effective,” said Uyloan.
Guiao was more than happy with the progression of Uyloan, who was undrafted during the 2009 PBA Rookie Draft.
“Jonathan deserves the time he’s getting. Last conference, the offseason, nagpakita naman siya na kaya niya,” said Guiao.
The six-time PBA champion coach added that the evolution of Uyloan’s game is a blessing in disguise for the team as other guards will now strive harder to keep their spot.
“Uyloan has been pushing guys like Paul, Ryan (Arana), Chris (Tiu) and TY (Tang) to the limit. Maganda rin ito dahil it will make everyone feel that their spots are not secured. They will have to fight for it,” said Guiao.
